Theme and plot of the story
A charming little video slot from Bally, Dragon Spin takes the visual style of Chinese Dragon slots and updates it with a new color scheme (blue and orange, rather than red and gold), as well as a variety of dragon styles to choose from.
As a consequence, the slot seems both completely fresh yet weirdly familiar at the same time. And, perhaps most crucially, it manages to sidestep the stereotyping that plagues so many East Asian-themed slot machines.
Graphics, sounds, and animations are all included.
The visuals are just stunning. This slot, in addition to being rendered in a contemporary 3D manner, has been given a great deal of flair by a group of brilliant artists. Each of the four dragon emblems have a distinct personality, which gives the impression that each dragon is a fully realized individual.
The animations aren’t as dazzling as they might be, but they perform the job they are supposed to do. They make it easier to interpret the results and make the graphics more fascinating by adding movement to them.
There’s something a bit strange about the music for a spot like this, since it’s a percussion-based soundtrack that seems more dance-like than anything associated with dragons or China. However, it performs well enough that it is not worth muting.
Gameplay
The fundamental game consists of a five-reel, three-row slot with thirty paylines that may be played at once.
A feature known as Mystery Stacked Reels is also available on Dragon Spin. At the start of each spin, a randomly selected symbol (with the exception of the Scatter symbol) is allocated to be stacked on the reels, offering potential for players to win over numerous win lines in a single spin.
In order to keep players on their toes, there are a variety of bonus games (see below for more information).
In general, the gameplay seems to be continually altering in minor ways that keep the player’s attention throughout the experience.
Wilds, bonuses, and free spins are all included in this game.
The Wild symbol may be used to replace any other symbol with the exception of the Scatter symbol.
Unlike the other symbols, the Scatter only appears on reels 2, 3 and 4. The Free Spin Bonus game is triggered when a Scatter symbol appears on all three reels.
During the Free Spin Bonus round, you will get five free spins with one of three randomly selected features:
- There was no data found!
- the Raining Wilds feature adds three to ten random Wilds to every spin;
- the Persisting Wilds feature adds fewer Wilds on average on each spin, but they are then locked in place for the remaining free spins;
- and the Reel Blast feature creates three separate slot games stacked on top of each other, with reels 2, 3 and 4 shared between all three. During the Reel Blast, those central three reels will all be the same symbol across all three slot games.
Bet sizes, return on investment (RTI), and variance
Approximately 96 percent of the time, the return to player for this game is 95.94 percent, which is at the lower end of our approximate range for average, which we put at roughly 96 percent.
There was a wide selection of bets available on the site we tested, ranging from a minimum wager per spin of $/£/€0.30 up to a maximum stake per spin of $/£/€120.00.
The volatility of this game is modest, which makes it a poor fit for our favorite slot machine tactics, which are designed to achieve the maximum potential level of volatility.
All of the free spins have rewards that have been slightly tweaked.
Conclusion
If the charming dragon characters aren’t enough to entice you to keep playing, the high return to player (RTP) and a variety of bonus games may be enough to convince you.
Unfortunately, the minimal volatility (although this may not bother certain players) and the relatively stale theme of Chinese Dragons work against these advantages.
As a consequence, any suggestion we would make about this game would be conditional on matching the game to the preferences of the appropriate player.
