Faust review
Theme and plot of the story
Theme and plot of the story“His waxen wings did mount above his reach, and, melting, heavens conspired his overthrow; for, falling to a devilish exercise he surfeits upon curséd necromancy.” – from Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlowe.
It is the Doctor of the same name who serves as the inspiration for Faust, which is based on the German ancient German folk legend. It is the story of a man who makes the initial bargain with the devil, exchanging his immortal soul for temporary knowledge, magic, and fortune.
Using scales and a balance, the artist depicts the concepts of alchemy and magic from the Renaissance period. Faust himself makes an appearance, as does Gretchen, his sweetheart (in Goethe’s version). And the Scatter/Bonus Symbol is suitably portrayed by Mephistopheles, the devil, who may offer you wealth, but who may also take your soul as a result of his actions.
Graphics, sounds, and animations are all included.
The graphics are acceptable, if not a touch cheesy. The aces through ten are done in a rather ugly luminous colour.
The visual presentation is great apart from the artwork, with nice animations on the reels and when you make a win to add to the overall appeal.
The gamble function seems to be well-designed, and the sound design is mainly inaudible (in a good way). As a result, it receives high grades in this category.
Gameplay
The gameplay is quite conventional for a five-reel slot with this many lines of pay. There are ten win lines across the three rows and you can play as many as you like.
When you achieve a winning combination on this slot, you will be able to use the same gamble function as you would on various other Novomatic slots. You must choose which color the following card will be in order to win the game.
In addition, there is a bonus round with free spins (details below).
Wilds, bonuses, and free spins are all included in this game.
The character of Mephistopheles is essential to understanding this section. The tricky devil’s symbol plays as an all purpose Scatter, Wild and bonus symbol.
Where he lands on a winline you may use him as a Wild to create a combination with any of the other symbols.
Hit three or more and you win a modest sum as a scatter symbol. This will also trigger a bonus in which you receive ten free spins during which an expanding symbol is in effect.
Each free spin begins with a randomly picked expanding symbol, which grows once all payments have been completed. The payout for that symbol is then computed again using slightly different criteria on the next free spin. As soon as this symbol appears on the reels, it expands to encompass all three slots on the reels, following which the first reward is computed is determined.
Any further victories obtained via the use of the enlarged symbol are then added to your total.
Bet Sizes, RTP and Variance
As a result of the variable number of winlines (which may be set anywhere between one and ten), you can place a wide variety of bet values on a per-spin basis (with coin sizes ranging from $0.10 USD to $/£/€50.00 USD per spin on the site we tested). A respectable selection.
The return on investment (RTI) is 95.1 percent, which is not much outside the center of the group, but is on the low side. However this is countered by the game’s high-variance which is something we look for in the slots we recommend for our slot strategies.
Conclusion
Faust is a good-looking slot machine with a lot of features. It has some positive characteristics (growing symbols, gamble function) as well as some negative aspects (artwork, return to player percentage), but on the whole it doesn’t do anything really wrong and it doesn’t accomplish anything particularly spectacular either.
All in all, this is a mediocre position.
