a review of Finn and the Swirly Spin

Theme and plot of the story

Finn and the Swirly Spin features an Irish theme, with images of clover and leprechauns evoking the landscape of the Emerald Isle.

Finn dances on screen and sprinkles some magic about in the introductory cinematic, setting the stage for you to experience this enchanting slot universe.

Finn and the Swirly Spin is a cliché at this point, but it’s uncommon that a cliche is performed with nearly as much panache as it does in Finn and the Swirly Spin.

Graphics, sounds, and animations are all included.

The visuals on this slot are stunning, but that shouldn’t come as a surprise considering that it is developed by NetEnt. These are high-definition animations that are in three dimensions, and unlike most other slots, this one makes extensive use of the additional dimension it possesses.

Despite the fact that it is a little unpleasant recorder track, it can be muted and, on the whole, contributes to the ambiance without getting in the way too much.

Gameplay

Finn and the Swirly Spin is a game that takes place on a five by five grid. Wins are given out for lines of three to five symbols that run horizontally and vertically across the board. Instead of spinning a reel, during each game round the symbols appear at random on the grid (except for the Key symbol which appears in the bottom left).

Then comes the most intriguing portion of the story. Winning symbols are demolished, and a cascade mechanism is activated as a result. Unlike other cascade mechanics where the symbols usually fall from the top, in this game the symbols are loaded in from the bottom left and move around in a spiral towards the centre of the grid.

If the Key symbol makes it all the way around the reels from the bottom left to the center, one of four bonus games will be activated (see below for details).

Wilds, bonuses, and free spins are all included in this game.

There are a variety of random extra ‘Features’ that are awarded at random after a spin, and they are described below. Specifically, there are four of them:

    There was no data found!

  • Starfall Wilds, in which two or more Wilds are added to the grid, if there is no win more wilds are added until there is;
  • Dragon Destroy, in which a random number of symbols are destroyed, this will always happen in such a way that a win will then occur;
  • Irish Luck in which a horizontal or vertical line of one symbol is added to create a win for the player; and
  • Magic Transform in which all the Spade and Heart symbols are transformed into a random higher-paying symbol.

When there are no winnings on a spin, the Dragon Destroyer and Irish Luck symbols appear on the reels.

In this game, wild symbols are a bit more complicated than they are in most others. While they may be used to substitute for any other symbol as is customary, they only appear when a victory is achieved without the use of a Wild sign. In this situation, one of the winning symbols will be replaced with a Wild symbol when the winning symbols explode.

The Wild symbol, when it appears as part of a winning combination, destroys all other symbols that are horizontally or vertically next to it in addition to destroying the winning combination’s symbols. This kind of triumph does not result in the creation of a new Wild.

A sticky Wild sign appears during the Lava Lair free spins round, and it stays in place while the other symbols spiral towards the centre of the screen.

If you destroy enough symbols to move the key symbol all the way around to the centre of the dial, you will be able to enter a bonus round.

At initially, you can only access the most basic free spin game, but each time you trigger the bonus, you receive a key that allows you to unlock the next three games in the series. These four free spins games provide you with a number of free spins as well as an extra feature in each of their respective games. Each of the bonus games has a unique element as well as a variable amount of spins.

Bet sizes, return on investment (RTI), and variance

Finn and the Swirly Spin has a return to player percentage of 96.62 percent, which is somewhat over the industry average, and moderate to medium volatility. While the return on investment (ROI) is good, we prefer high volatility slots since they function better with our trading tactics.

On the site we tested, the maximum bet each swirl was £/$/€0.10, and the highest wager per spin was £/$/€200.

Conclusion

This is a wonderful slot that is extremely jam-packed with interesting features and a visually appealing design. The random bonuses are a fun little spice and the longer term process of unlocking the free spin bonuses is rewarding and give the game a continuity between spins.

The only significant drawback is the low variance, which we would expect to be somewhat bigger.

Overall, this is a fantastic slot that is quite entertaining to play.
