Theme and plot of the story
The Grand is more about aesthetics than it is about a particular topic or plot. That specific design approach is the same as any great Diesel-punk work, such as Bioshock or The Rocketeer, in that it is a counterfeit Art Deco design.
The lettering on the reels have been deliberately picked to resemble the logo for a Crimson Skies spin-off, and the symbols on the reels, although being nothing more than card suits and precious stones inlaid, have all been created with a nod to Gatsby-style wealth in mind.

The graphics are a visual treat. However, although being in many respects quite basic, each thing on the screen is a great representation of itself, and at every point, elements have been picked to connect the slot together in one coherent aesthetic, without the use of a storyline, characters, or a central theme.
However, the sound effects are a little more haphazard, reflecting a strange combination of synth music that is reflected in the victory noises and even in the blips that the reels create as they revolve.
